About the Artist

I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, the 4th of 12 children. My parents are Johnny West Lowe and Gloria Rose Lowe. I have been interested in art since an early age but it wasn’t until around 1999 that I began to practice it (Home Studio Art Gallery ) seriously. My first form of artistic expression was photography, which moved into computer art, digital multimedia, web design and video. In 2009 my interest changed again, I picked up a paintbrush and began to paint. I soon enrolled in art classes at Chicago’s Harold Washington and Truman City Colleges taking classes in water color, general drawing, oil painting techniques, figure drawing and 3-dementional design.

Some of the artists that have influenced my work are Jean-Michel Basquiat, for making me feel that I could paint anything I wanted; Bernard Williams, for his intelligence and exploration of black history; Monet and Van Gogh, for their amazing use of color and light; and Ralph Childs, a talented Chicago abstract painter who was a personal friend and mentor.

Artist Statement

My work represents details of abstract impressionistic,  painting. I try to achieve an expression of the identity I see in myself as an artist, and the vibrant colors I feel around me in the psychic realm of my reality. The varied styles are very free form creating lines and colors which project the image I choose to paint.
